My goal this year was to write monthly farm updates here. That was quite ambitious. Life has been busy, so seasonal updates it is!
Spring sprung at the farm this year. We have expanded so much. There have been a lot of experiments, trials and error, successes, and most of all- a lot of learning.
Beekeeping is something I’ve always been really interested in. I never dreamed I would become a beekeeper though. Last year I dove into researching and learning as much as I could about honeybees. We attended Indiana Bee School over the winter and ordered our first nucleus hives. We brought the girls home in April! There is so much more than I ever knew that goes into beekeeping. I am completely addicted and currently planning a full-blown apiary with more hives than I can count.

April also brought us a flock of meat birds. We’re trying our hand at raising our own chickens for meat this year- and hopefully for you too! We’re raising our meat birds on non-gmo, organic feed and we move them to fresh pasture at least once per day. My husband built a “chicken tractor” or mobile chicken coop that has served us well so far. The nuggets will be ready for processing in a few short weeks.

The first of May marked our first day at our local farmer’s market! Being a part of our local market is something I’ve thought about off and on for years. I’m extremely passionate about the earth, the food that we eat, growing organically the way God intended, and producing the highest quality and purist form of food. Everyone deserves to eat real food. My husband really encouraged me to give it a go- what did I have to lose? It’s been such a rewarding whirlwind.

On top of all that, the garden is in full swing! We’re exhausted most days. Sometimes it’s hard to balance work and play but we’re prioritizing the best we can. We have great support and the best help!
We’re so thankful you’re here.
Love, Kay
